Located east of Los Angeles, western Riverside county is the fastest growing area in California. As the pressures of growth strain the region's infrastructure - namely its transportation system - leaders there are giving serious consideration to promoting transit-oriented development as one solution to eliminate and/or reduce the length of automobile trips. Providing mixed-uses with higher residential densities near existing and planned transit stations throughout the subregion is viewed as one way to help achieve this goal, and can also provide new lifestyle choices and, possibly, more affordable housing for the region's changing population.
